St. Ambrose University: EDUCATION SPECIALIST

The University of Texas at San Antonio is seeking a Director for its Teaching and Learning Center. The Teaching and Learning Center reports to the Office of the Provost.
UTSA is currently developing a major initiative to transform the way its students learn, and the new Director will be responsible for implementing a new strategic mandate that the TLC will become the major support unit for the University's strategic goal of integrating technology, including a wireless campus environment, into teaching and learning.

Required Qualifications: Master's Degree in a relevant field such as instructional technology, curriculum development, or a subject area in the social or behavioral sciences; minimum of five years experience in a teaching and learning center environment; experience with budgeting; expertise in the applications of technology to curriculum development; familiarity with appropriate instructional design issues; experience with WebCT or similar applications; experience supporting faculty in developing technology based courses.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate in a relevant field; record of increasing responsibilities in managing a Center and training support staff.

Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience.

The Department of Educational Technology at San Diego State University is seeking a faculty member to serve as Chair for the Department starting in Fall, 2004.
A doctorate in Educational Technology, Educational Computing, Instructional Systems, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field is strongly preferred. We are seeking an individual with a substantial record of open and collaborative management that includes facilitating faculty to accomplish program and academic goals, and working with administrative and technical personnel.

The ideal applicant should also have a track record and ongoing interest in empirical research and publication in refereed journals; presentations at local, regional, and national conferences; participation in grant development and/or special projects; currency in relevant areas of expertise; and the potential to develop additional areas as needed to meet personal, professional, and Departmental needs. We are looking for candidates with the ability to appreciate our past while looking to the future and guiding the department to new achievements. We are particularly interested in candidates who are attentive to creative and flexible approaches to the application of technology to teaching and learning. Specific responsibilities of the position include managing the department; facilitating faculty teaching, professional growth, and service activities; supervising and evaluating administrative and technical staff; and evaluating faculty.

The Chair's duties also include working with faculty to renew the curriculum, expand the current undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs, and explore and obtain new opportunities and funds for research and development. A genuine interest in teaching, supervising graduate students' work, and advising is part of the position. While the Department Chair does not teach every semester, we seek someone with a history of effective teaching and advising, and passion for nurturing an academic program long recognized for effective and innovative teaching and learning.
