University of Toronto and eCollege(SM) Collaborate to Deliver G8 Online 2002 Course and Other Online Distance Learning Courses

The University of Toronto today announced the launch of the G8 Online 2002 course, providing information and analysis on the G8 Summit economic meeting of world leaders to be held on June 26-27 in Kananaskis, Alberta. The G8 Online 2002 course, developed by the University’s G8 Research Group, is available for free to everyone - students, faculty, media, and even the world leaders themselves. “The G8 Online 2002 course provides an ideal environment for anyone anywhere in the world to explore issues facing our nations, including globalization, poverty reduction, growth, and fighting terrorism,” said Professor John Kirton, director of the G8 Research Group at the University of Toronto. “The online delivery allows participants to interact and learn as if they were sitting next to each other in a classroom.”

This is the fifth year the University of Toronto has partnered with eCollege(SM), the leading provider of technology and services for online higher education programs, to deliver the G8 Online course. The University of Toronto recently signed a contract with eCollege to build and host additional online distance learning courses and its online campus.

The G8 Online 2002 course is supported by the Government of Canada’s G8 Summit Policy Office. Course materials, available in both French and English, are being posted online in the weeks leading up to the G8 Summit. In addition to the 26 video, audio and text lectures delivered by special guests, the course includes:

· Quizzes, recommended readings, critical commentaries and interviews
