Evaluation
of distance education programs is one the most important
aspects of managing a successful project.
Evaluation data are the most sought after information by a
number of stakeholders including funding agencies,
students, parents, policy makers, and
public officials. Evaluation
programs start with: Posing
the right questions for the study, Developing
a data collection plan, Analyzing
the results, and In
addition, when evaluation is conducted by a third
party the objectivity, and integrity of its
results are more dependable.
Course evaluations
are conducted to find information about quality of:
There
are hundreds of evaluation instruments for assessing quality
of distance courses.
Remember,
evaluation instruments that have been validated
will provide reliable data. Validated
instruments have been tried in test runs on target
subjects to see if critical factors are held up when
actual data is collected. The
instrument presented here was developed and validated by Dr.
Paul Biner at Ball State University. It provides reliable
data for video-based telecourses. The instrument is presented
here by permission. Today,
I want to start a national dialogue on the American high
school
& make a set of recommendations to get that conversation
going.... Many
experts have noted the American high school is one
of the most
enduring & unchanging institutions in our society.
Even
as the
world is changed all around them, the majority of our nation's
high
schools
seem to be caught in a time warp from long ago... Yet
today, we still seem to be using America's high schools as
"sorting
machines," tagging & labeling young people
as successful, run
of the mill, or low achievers. We need all of our young
people learning
to high standards in what Alan Greenspan has called the
new
"economy of ideas."
